Neuropsychological Evaluation Summary & Rehabilitation Strategies Series
This series of 11 pamphlets is designed to provide feedback on neuropsychological or cognitive assessment results. It also serves to help patients overcome the cognitive difficulties suffered as a result of an accident or illness. In particular, the series outlines specific cognitive strengths and problems based upon the neuropsychological/cognitive testing results. It then provides specific brochures which each address methods for overcoming the identified/reported problem areas.
The pamphlets cover the main areas of impaired thinking which patients typically experience following brain trauma or disease. The cognitive difficulties covered include: attention/concentration, verbal and visual memory, problem solving/decision-making, organizing/planning, social perception/judgment, hand strength/coordination, reading, writing, arithmetic, and orientation to directions. In addition, secondary emotional distress (anxiety, irritability, depression) and difficulties in initiation are reviewed, with related strategies offered.
An alternate feedback pamphlet relates non-organic cognitive difficulties to issues such as pain, lack of sleep, emotional distress, medication side effects, etc.. Patients whose cognitive difficulties are assessed as being secondary to these other concerns may then be interested in related pamphlets from the RREES Rehabilitation Education, and Coping Series (contained in this website).
